What is needed to Edit Webs on IIS6/WSS3?

S

Scott Townsend

We are trying to upgrade the hardware on our Windows SharePoint Services Web
server to WSS 3.
We have the new machine, it has Win2003 R2, IIS 6, WSS3 and the Sharepoint
Sites are on there way to being migrated.

We have a few other Webs that were v5.0.2.5012 sites on the old Win2003
server. We used Front Page 2003 to Edit them.

I've created new Webs on the new Server and moved the content to the new
server and the sites work great.

What do I need to allow Front Page 2003 to connect to the site and Edit
them?

Thanks,
Scott<-

In addition to WSS (which you have installed) you would need to install the FP SE from your Win 2003 CD and extend the FP SE for
just those FP webs in IIS

the folks in the WSS3 group seem to imply that I either cant or should not
install FP SE with WSS v3.

Do you know of any issues?

Thank you,
Scott<-

Officially they are not recommended to be used together
- I have only tested with both installed but have not checked for any long term issues

Hi Scott,

This is supported. FrontPage Server Extension (FPSE) and Windows SharePoint
Service (WSS) can be installed on the same machine. What we need to avoid
is mixing them up on same web site. i.e: do not extend a FPSE site with WSS
without clearing up all the FPSE stuff on it and vice versa.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

WenJun Zhang

So my server already has WSS3 on it.

Any issues if I install FPSE after WSS3 has been installed?

Thanks,
Scott<-

Scott,

There will not be any issue to install both WSS and FPSE on the same
machine. Please refer to:

2. Can FPSE and WSS coexist on the same server?

Yes, however, FrontPage Server Extensions (FPSE) can't exist on any virtual
server
that is extended or is to be extended by WSS. To remove FPSE entirely,
click Start,
Control Panel, and then click Add & Remove Programs. Click Add or Remove
Windows
Components. In the list of Windows Components, click Application Server,
and then
click the Details button. In the list that appears, click IIS and then the
Details
button. In this final list, uncheck FrontPage Server Extensions and OK back
to the
Windows Components screen where you can continue. To remove FrontPage
Server
extensions in IIS, right click the effected virtual server and click All
Tasks,
click Remove FPSE. (Also, through STS one can remove the FrontPage Server
Extensions from a specific site by means of the Central Administration
Pages.)

Thanks.

Sincerely,

WenJun Zhang
