what is the difference between Sharepoint and front page

SHAREPOINT:
Sharepoint uses Sharepoint server technologies. Someone else on this group
might give a fuller explanation, however there's a dedicated group for
Sharepoint (nttp://microsoft.public.sharepoint.general), so you might
direct your specific questions there.

(also require the Sharepoint server download)

FRONTPAGE:
Frontpage is a web development application which utilises 'web-bots' -
server side scripts that take a lot of hard work out of typical tasks, such
as processing data from a form to a database, or a site search, or many
other things. The features provide basic functionality for other things
like a discussion forum or photo gallery, guestbook and a number of other
things, that would otherwise take effort, and require extensive knowledge to
write the code in a server side language like PHP.

Frontpage is generally no longer available in retail stores, although you
might find a copy for sale on E-Bay or similar.

EXPRESSION WEB:
Expression Web is Microsoft's newest web developer tool, replacing Frontpage
2003. It is a "WYSIWYG" web site developer tool just like Frontpage but
lacks many of the 'web-bot' type features Frontpage had. Expression Web
instead, offers advanced features using newer technologies like ASP .Net,
It also contains "intellisense" support for some server side languages (like
C# or VB and is helpful in recognising correct syntax and tags in HTML).

You can download trial versions of the Expression range of products
including Expression Web here: http://www.microsoft.com/products/expression/
