Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I'm working on a number of PowerPoint presentations which seem to be growing at an alarming rate in terms of file size (on average they are 60+MB. Are there any good tips or tricks for minimising or reducing file sizes?

All advice gratefully received.

Thank you!

Well, the rule of thumb is that any type of file will generally get larger
as you add more content & that the whole will be greater than the sum of the
parts :) Not knowing what you've been adding to the files, though, it's
difficult to give you a specific answer. Some of the most common reasons:

1- Inclusion of high resolution raster images (photographs). Dumping in
numerous 1MB+ pictures bloats a file unnecessarily,

2- Using the new graphics tools in 2008 (such as Charts, Smart Art, fancy
effects) then saving in the old binary format. That forces the file to
include conversions in order for 2004 & prior to display the content but the
originals remain for when the file is opened in 2007 or later,

3- Loading the file up with audio & video content or other objects,

4- Indiscriminate pasting from external sources - especially web sites,

5- Extensive use of direct formatting,

6- Using a wide array of fonts
