What is The Proper Way to Create New Enterprise Project

D

Doug

I have followed this forum, and I see instructions from Dale and others to
not "Save As" to the project server but to Import.

However, when creating a new project, it appears you must "Save As" and
select the project server and specify "Published" version. In this case the
project is brand new and never saved as a .mpp file, and is a "blank" (i.e.
no resources, no tasks). After saving to the project server, I then add
reources from the enterprise resource pool.

Another words, you can not create a new projet "on the server", but rather
create a new project and "Save as" to the server. You can not "import" a non
saved project....Right? I understand the problems associated with opening a
..mpp file and file "Save as" to the project server, but that is NOT what I am
doing.

The proper steps to save an enterprise project are:

1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional and log into Project Server
2. Begin with the blank project or click File - New and open an enterprise
template
3. Click Save

The first time you attempt to save a new project while connected to Project
Server, clicking the Save button will take you directly to the Save to
Project Server dialog. Therefore, the steps you are doing are fine, and
will accomplish what you wish, which is a saved enterprise project. Hope
this helps.

Thanks Dale. I was a little gun shy.
