What options, besides Entourage?

M

Mark N.

This may be heretical to even ask in this ng, but are there robust options
in the Mac world, besides Entourage, for use in an Exchange environment? I
really like my Exchange 5.5 server and although I have plans to upgrade it
eventually, I don't want to be forced to upgrade by my e-mail client. Even
Outlook XP allows the use of Exchange 5.5 - why won't the newest version of
Entourage?

Anyway, does anybody have any suggestions or know of any other
corporate-ready e-mail clients for Mac that would work in place of Entourage
in an Exchange environment?

Many thanks,
Mark

I guess I should've mentioned - besides Outlook - because we're going native
on our OSX machines...

Thanks,

Hi Mark!

Outlook will still work in Classic. You may wish for "pure" Mac OS X
systems, but Outlook in Classic works just fine in our environment. Unless
you have a need NOT to use Classic, then this is a viable option.

I believe Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) will have the ability to integrate Mail
and iCal into an Exchange environment, but I'm sure its initial
implementation will not be as robust as Entourage (which is not as robust as
Outlook for Mac).

Hope this helps! bill

Unfortunately, we need to get rid of Classic because of the combination of
software our people run. Not only that, but we have this creeping dread
that Macintosh will eventually release a new architecture that doesn't
support it - G6 perhaps? Who knows? We tend to upgrade several of our
designers as soon as new machines are released and our Mac support guy is
very worried about loss of support for Classic mode. He's decided that now
is the time to start to move toward a native environment, so I'm thinking
ahead toward that goal too :-(

It's just pitiful that Outlook for Mac had finally gotten so darned good,
and now it's being discarded... What next? I envision something like
"Microsoft Scrawl" - the new word processor for Macintosh, to replace Word.
And "Microsoft Spreadsheets" to replace Excel for Mac. Just turn everything
upside-down for no clear or compelling reason every few years for Mac users.
Thank you, Micro$oft....

Anyway, thanks for your response, William. I guess I'm just going to have
to go Active Directory and Exchange 2000 sooner than expected.

Outlook in Classic is a bit of a crash fest for me, honestly. But I
deal.

The rumor sites are saying it's pretty full-featured...
