what size is my entire website ?

i've built a publisher 2003 website, http://www.aretecrete.com, firstly how
can i find out the size of my entire website in MB and secondly how can i
reduce the size ? I've compressed all photos and started to hyperlink some on
the AREA page to larger sizes, however, does this uploading of larger
pictures and hyperlinking increase my website size ? I have 20MB of space to
use but don't now my size at the moment. I'm a complete novice and it's my
first site so I'm open and gratefull for any suggestions.

If you "Publish to the web" and direct your html output to a folder on your
hard drive, then you can look at those files and determine the total size
with Windows Explorer....or just right click the folder and choose
Properties. And yes, uploading additional full sized images and linking to
them will increase your total website size. You can see the size of the
files in Windows Explorer before you upload them.

To minimize the size of html files, be sure to compress all the images as
you are doing, and also go to Tools > Options > Web tab and uncheck "Rely on
VML..." and "Allow PNG...". Also be sure to use "Publish to the Web" to
produce your html, and not "Save as a web page" as it was done in Pub 2000.
"Publish to the web" will produce filtered and lighter files.

You can also minimize the sizes of the full sized images that you upload.
Use a third party image editor to resize and reduce the images before you
upload them. Don't upload them directly from your camera, as they are likely
to be 300 dpi or perhaps higher, and thus a fairly large file size. You want
no more than 96 dpi, and 72 dpi will result in a smaller file. Use around
30% compression and vary depending on how good of quality you want. The
higher the compression, the smaller the file size, but also the lower the
quality. If you don't have an image editor, then www.irfanview.com offers a
good little freebie.

Actually, most cameras seem to save as 72 dpi. They just save at a huge
size, such as 1800 x 1200.
