What software will support mail merge from Outlook 2003?

I am trying to use mail merge in Outlook 2003 and the following message
appears:

"To use this feature you must install the version of Microsoft Word that
matches the installed version of Microsoft Outlook."

If I currently have Microsoft Word XP, do I have to buy the Office 2003 or
are there updates that I can install to update my current version of Word?

I consider it a safe bet to quote the answer given to my post, 3 posts before
yours : Upgrade one or "restore the other". They obviously need to be in the
same version, since Office 2003 and XP are not "compatible" in that sense.
