You cannot use Outlook with a free Yahoo! mail account, only premium.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

With a freebie account, the only access you normally have is by using
their webmail interface. If you pay for their premium service then and
only then do you get access to their POP3 and SMTP mail servers.

If you want to continue using a freebie Yahoo! Mail account but access
it via a POP3-compliant e-mail client then use YahooPOPs
(http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net) which is free. It runs as a local
HTTP-to-POP3 converter proxy to let your POP3 e-mail client connect to
it and it then connects to Yahoo via HTTP to yank your e-mails.

You could also use YahooPOPs' SMTP function to send e-mails out through
Yahoo but the problem with freebie accounts is that Yahoo will append
their promotional spam signature onto your outbound e-mails. That looks
amateurish. So configure your e-mail account to yank your inbound
e-mails using YahooPOPs but configure it to use your ISP's SMTP server
to send outbound e-mails.

Personally I would suggest using the older 0.5 version of YahooPOPs.
The latest version 0.6 has some problems, like HTTPS doesn't work (to
secure your login credentials) but MD5 should still work to hash up your
username and password. HTTPS and MD5 only secure your login credentials
(username and password) as does using SSL in your e-mail client when
connecting to an SSL-enabled mail server, but the rest of your message
goes a clear text (unless you use digital encryption within your e-mail
client which means you need to get a certificate). I also had to
configure their cookie caching to zero seconds. But if you experience
no problems with version 0.6 then go for it.

I have 5 freebie Yahoo mail accounts and successfully poll all of them.
YahooPOPs is free. It is not a commercial program so it is a tad flaky.
About once a week I have to kill YahooPOPs and reload it (but then I'm
doing non-typical actions on my system for development that you won't).
If you power cycle your computer (so you end up logging out) then
YahooPOPs should prove reliable for you. By using YahooPOPs, your setup
will look something like:

Inbound e-mails:

POP3 e-mail client <-- YahooPOPs <-- Yahoo Mail

There is a forum where you can ask specific question regarding setup and
use of YahooPOPs. It is better to ask over there because that forum is
focused on YahooPOPs whereas the number of users that visit this
newsgroup and which YahooPOPs would be much smaller.
