What will happen to this newsgroup?

MS are now selling the Answers forums

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/default.aspx#tab=1

but as you can see - not only are there no specialised forums for
Access.formscoding access.reports access.queries

Access as a whoooooooooole application doesn't even get a mention

So the chances of discussing say an SQL statement are zippo

And yet they can't argue it's not popular since Access newsgroups probably
get more posts/traffic than all the new "MS Office" forums put together

The Group will likely live on in the depths of UseNet.

I am accessing this group through GigaNews and many others are accessing it
(and many, many other dropped MS Groups) through News Servers like Eternal
September, a Free one.

I'm interested in accessing newsgroups via web-based forum but which is the
best?

I did notice that you can read newsgroup posts via Social Answers but you
cant post/reply which rules it out for me

You have to create an account and log in to post/reply.

Microsoft no longer supports newsgroups for Access... period. They have shut
down the msnews.microsoft.com news server for these groups. The groups only
exist at all because they have propagated to other news servers, which are
free to maintain them or delete them at will. Traditionally, once a newsgroup
has been created it's almost impossible to kill, but MS is certainly trying to
kill them.

You cannot in fact view newsgroup posts via the Social forum. It's a separate
datastore unrelated to the NNTP newsgroups.

Ummm... yes. You can. Many people do. You do need an account but it's free and
a one-time-only addition.

See my .sig for some direct links.

I have an account - any reply appears in the forum but not on the
newsgroup - so you cant communicate with newsgroup from the forum

That is correct. you cannot communicate with the newsgroup from the forum, and
you cannot communicate with the forum from the newsgroup. Microsoft has *cut
all its ties to the newsgroups*.
