What would cause a 2" right margin when it was not set?

I have a document that at first opens into page view and looks fine but as
soon as I touch the mouse or a key reformats visually to provide a 2" right
margin. However the right margin is set to 1". What's going on? How can I
change this?

I checked the following:

1) Format paragraphs and no right margin is set,
2) Page Setup and the right margin is set to 1", gutter 0"
3) It is not in any table.
4) Only the default 1 column is set.
5) My printer is still set to the default printer, and it prints just as
I see it with 2" margins
6) Other documents open fine.

Now the document was assembled by the team lead from multiple documents
through cut and paste so presumably something funky was pulled in from
somewhere.

Also of note is that when I tried to save it as an rtf file in the how of
getting rid of the offending mysterious formatting, it gave me an error
message that "Word was unable to write some of the embedded objects due to
insufficient memory or disk space." and I have ample gigabytes of both.
SO I'm quite perplexed. Any clues would be appreciated.

thanks

The document may be set up to print "Document with Markup" when you
really want to only print "Document". Try clicking on File | Print |
Print what: Document | Page Range: Current page | OK. (This will cause
the current page to print.) Hopefully this will fix the Page Layout
view and Print Preview.

Hi Jim

I think you'll find that you have Track changes on and you are set to
display 'Balloons' - these take up space in the margins and the document is
shrunk to allow them to fit.

If you don't want to track changes, then turn it off and also accept all
changes in the document (both available from the Reviewing toolbar).

If you do want to track changes without changing the layout, change the
options (also available from the Reviewing toolbar, under Show > Options).

My god that was it! Just by choosing 'Final' from that review bar all came
back well. Thanks so much.

Generally speaking, everything is *not* well if you simply select Final!!!
You will still be tracking changes, and whenever anyone else views that
document, they will see any changes you made. Whether or not they see (wide
margin for) balloons will depend on the View options *on their machine*.

If this document no longer has a life once your Team Lead has given it to
you, I suggest you get rid of the revisions - it's just extra garbage in the
file.

The doc does have a longer life and I agree. It always seems that revision
tracking is only good to show changes after everyone agrees to the final
changes - it is so annoying to use during the change process.

thanks again.
