What would make my website open so slowly?

I recently added a photo gallery to my home page. I'm guessing that might be
the reason? Can anything be done to correct this other than deleting the
photo gallery?

Your pictures might be to big. Google infranview and then download it to
make yoru pictures smaller.

I don't really see a photogallery, your photos that are there are pretty
small. The index page doesn't really take all that long to load, it does
kinda balk for a second or two...probably the Java applet image rotator
thingie you have there to the right of January Closeouts - try removing it
and see what happens.

Thanks everyone. I made a couple of small changes and the speed is much
better!

Please remove the Java applet. It adds weight to the page for something
that most people won't see. The Java engine has not been distributed with
Windows since the settlement of the Sun Microsystems suit (W9x, I believe),
and if you haven't specifically downloaded it and installed it, all you'll
see is a gray box.
