I don't think this is the right forum for your question,
but while we're here, modem is an abbreviation for
MOdulate-DEModulate, and refers to a device that converts
of one kind of communications signal into another.
Originally it referred specifically to a device for
converting analog telephone signals into digital computer
signals that your computer can "hear" and understand.
More recently I believe the definition now also refers to
digital-to-digital conversions, such as with some cable
modems. For a more detailed and precise answer I
