What's needed to run SharePoint locally?

Mr B

We are loking into the possibility of having an Exit Survey at an event we are putting on. We are
thikning about just hooking up a few computers together and creating a poll that they can fill out.
I've not used it but I understand that SharePoint is needed to use the Poll features.

What OS can that be installed on to run it locally and not on an actually web server. Also, what
else is needed to make it run?

Just looking for any info on this as I don't think we'll have an actual network connection at our
show hall.

Thanks!

Didn't FP2002 come out before Windows 2003? That website says Windows Server 2003 is needed for
Sharepoint but that didn't seem to make sense that a 2002 product would require a 2003 product to
work.

Maybe I'm just confused.... Heh.

FP2002 worked with SharePoint Team Services which has been replace with
Windows SharePoint Services.

Well, since I don't have Server 2003, can I still get the old SharePoint and run it on Win2k at all
or is it totally not available anymore?

I think it is on the Office 2002 CD, requires Windows 2000 Server.

But see:

I wouldn't recommend it. Using an obsolete version of a technology
(especially SharePoint) is not going to yield much mileage, and the
difference between the SharePoint versions is such that when you upgraded,
you would have to start over from scratch. If you want to use Windows
SharePoint Services, you'll have to have a Windows Server 2003 system. WSS
is a free download from Microsoft.

Note, however, that it doesn't matter what OS you run your FrontPage client
software on, generally.
