what's the difference between a task and a task request?

In wanting to maximize the potential of managing tasks in Outlook 2003, I'm
looking for an explanation as to the difference between a task, and a task
request.

A task request is a message sent to another user asking them to take
ownership of a task and keep you updated with its progress.
