what's the limit to number of recipients for email merge?

G

gdsquinty

I was under the impression that regardless of the number of recipients
included in an email merge, Outlook would only send 10 messages at a time to
prevent a user's email server from shutting you down. Is that not true?

No it is not true - Outlook imposes no limits on it ability to sent to
multiple recipients - however, your ISP or mail admin may set limits.

Thank you for your response. To better clarify my question...I was under the
impression outlook would send only 10 at a time (of my 137 emails) so that my
ISP wouldn't choke on all 137 trying to get out with the same send request.
My understanding was that this was a feature of Outlook with the intent of
helping me send my large number of emails. Have I inadvertantly disabled
this feature or was I mistaken from the beginning?

You were mistaken from the beginning - repeat, Outlook imposes no limits,
your ISP or mail admin has that duty. Outlook will send to as many
recipients as the server (ISP or mail admin) will allow. I use Exchange at
home and have my limit set to 500.

OK. I guess I'm still not clear on the distinction I'm trying to make. I
know Outlook doesn't impose a limit on the number of recipients one can send
to. That's never been my question. My understanding was that Outlook would
send blocks of ten at a time so that the over all volume wouldn't exceed ISP
limits. True?

FALSE!

It's not true, and it wouldn't be effective if it were tried. What I
wonder is where you got that idea.
