When a photograph is inserted, it doesn't appear

On Word 2003, I can insert a photograph (anything from a few kb to several
hundred kb). The picture only appears when I press Enter.

If I scroll down the page and then back up, the picture has disappeared
again and only another Enter will display the photo.

All Word settings appear to be at their default.

XP Pro on a Celeron with 256M RAM and 60Gb disc.

Try reducing or turning off hardware acceleration in Start |
Control Panel | Display | Settings | Advanced | Troubleshooting.
If this fixes the problem, then you might want to check the
website of the manufacturer of your video card/graphics adapter
to see if there is an updated driver available.
