When backing up system to CD says invalid path, what to do

trying to use the tool: backup, in office/windows xp to backup all files in
our system to a CD. However, even with the CD in, etc. when we get ready to
save to that drive as destination it says "invalid path". What are we doing
wrong?

If you are using default backup tool, NTBackup, it cannot backup to cd.
You would have to backup to hd, then copy to cd.

PS your cdr software may have sum rudimentry backup facility
