When I attempt to open a document--"Microsoft has stopped working"

When I attempt to retrieve a document from my email folders, I'm not able to
open the email and thus this message appears. I have downloaded all of the
suggested packs and patches from Microsoft and the system ran a diagnostic of
the issue to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Somehow, I replied to the wrong question!

You must save the document attachments to your hard drive before trying to
open them
