When I click "delete," Word prints a symbol instead of deleting t.

I let a friend use my computer and this has occurred since then. He is not
aware of any setting changes he made, but I cannot determine how to return to
the traditional result of clicking on the Delete button. In addition,
clicking the Insert button, also produces a symbol.

You can reset all the keyboard keys to their Word default functions by
clicking on Tools | Customize | Keyboard | Reset All.
