When I click word files, Excel application opens with error messa.

Why is it that Excel application opens when I click word files from 'My
Document Folder'? This phenomenom ends with error message "file format is not
valid"

You'll have better luck asking this in an Excel newsgroup. This one is for
Word.

Sounds like Windows is confused about the file associations. Start up
Windows Explorer. Go to Folder Options. Select the File Types tab. Scroll
down to DOC. It should say 'Opens with Microsoft Word' ... but from your
description it probably says 'Microsoft Excel'. If so, click Change then
select Word.

You might try recreating the Word file associations and see if that
rectifies the problem. Go to Start/Run and run:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.
