When I copy and paste tasks the baseline data also copies

I have a client using Project Server 2003. After they baseline a shedule, if
they create a new task by using the copy and paste function, it also copies
the baseline data (Baseline Cost, Baseline Work etc). However, the summary
values and project level value for the baseline is not changed.

When a new task is added after a Baseline is set, I would think that the
baseline data for the new task should be blank as that task wasn't part of
the previous baseline.

Is this an expected result or a bug? Is there a setting somewhere that
allows me to stop the baseline copying into the new task when using the
copy/paste function?

If I simply insert a new task, no baseline data exists (as you'd expect).

Also, does 2007 behave the same way?

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Hi Peter,

When selecting the task, do not select by the row number. That
selects the entire task record and when copied, will copy *all*
data, including baseline.

Select the task name and duration and choose Copy Cell, not Copy
Task.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks Julie.
So basically, if they want to copy all the information from the current task
other than baseline data, they need to expose all the columns of data they
want (eg. Work, Duration, Start, Finish, Resource Names etc) and copy all the
columns for that task and then paste?
Does this also mean that if they use the drag and drop method or the copy
and paste (of the entire row), it will always copy the baseline data as well?
Cheers

Hi Peter,

You're welcome. In short, yes. The other option is to copy the
entire task and then clear the baseline for the selected task(s)
through Tools > Tracking, Clear baseline and checking the "Selected
task" option. I'm not sure which would be quicker -- possibly
copying the task and then clearing the baseline.

The drag /drop copy does copy baseline data as well as it copies the
task, not just selected cells.
