When I go to my top toolbar in Quickbooks or Word my computer free

I have Microsoft 2000 on my computer. When I go to the toolbar in the program
to choose something my computer freezes and I have to reboot. I have to close
my computer manually because it won't let me do a control alt delete.

Examples: When i go to "Banking" in Quickbooks and choose "MAke Deposit" it
sometimes freezes. There is a bunch of grey lines that come up and my
computer freezes up. Also sometimes when I go to "View" in Word and I want to
change to "LIsts" it does the same thing.

Can anyone help?

Try booting into safe mode to see if the problem is replicated.
Also check your event logs for any sys errors
