When I Import ACT! into Outlook BCM there are no street addresses

When I Import ACT! into Outlook BCM there are no street addresses. The city
and state are imported correctly, but not the street addresses.

I am using ACT2000! and Outlook BCM with Update.

Thanks. It's ironic that your reply arrived on the day that I have been
testing the trial version of ACT! 2006. I have decided to stick with ACT! in
spite of the additional cost because I don't want to have to change my way of
thinking about the processes.

Actually, I have worked with ACT! since the beta of the original DOS
version, when the company was Conductor Software out of Carrollton, TX. (I
can't tell you how long ago it was, but it's got to be at least between 20
and 25 years ago.)

Every time I've tried another product (Goldmine, PowerLeads, Ecco, Outlook
1, etc.) I keep trying to make it work like ACT. So I guess I'll stick with
it.

Thanks...

Lon Orenstein was also one of the original beta testers, so he also has lots
of ACT experience. In fact, he was the very first ACT Certified Consultant.
He is very disappointed in the current state of ACT.

Before switching to ACT, please be aware of the slowness of ACT 2006. ACT 6
was faster. There are several features in ACT 2006 that are missing from the
ACT 6 version. Data conversion of your old ACT 6 data can be corrupted by
the upgrade.

All in all, you might give BCM a second thought.

Good luck,

Thanks, Bill...

I read about Lon via the link you referred me to. 'Twas nice to see another
old-timer out there...

Yes, I have noticed the speed issue with ACT 2006 and have also noticed
several features that they have removed. Fortunately, I'm good at workarounds
:-( but those are several strikes against ACT.

Interesting that you mentioned data corruption. I found that when I finally
imported my old ACT data into BCM for a test, the ~4K character limit on the
Outlook notes field was a real issue for me. BCM truncated many, many notes
in many records, leaving me with a text file that that challenged me to put
things together. It was not a workable solution, and my notes are very
important. ACT apparently does not have this limitation. That's a strike
against BCM.

I am a MS shop, and prefer to run MS products. That's why I was really
interested in BCM. But, I guess the final kicker is that, after so many years
of using ACT, there's not much new stuff to learn. With BCM, it's a total
re-tooling of how we do things. And, given our (my wife and me) ages, we
don't remember new things that well any more. So being able to work with ACT
by rote is extrememly helpful.

After all this is said, we will work with the ACT trial. If it becomes
unbearable, we'll try BCM again. But losing the complete notes is a big issue.

Thanks for all your input and feedback...

I'm looking at ACT! 2006 but want to take a look at Outlook 2007
Business Contact Manager 3, which is available now in Beta 2 to the
public.

Isn't it nice that Microsoft has these news groups.

What on earth happened to the ACT! 8 (ACT! 2006) user discussion at
webx.act.com.

Its been down for about a week and a half now.

Used to be able to access (after signing up) it via the web from
www.Act.com ... Support ...User Discussions, or by setting up
webx.act.com as a Usenet News Server in your Newsreader (outlook
express, etc.) client.

After all this is said, we will work with the ACT trial.

For selfish reasons, I wish you would do a "trial" of BCM 3, i.e.
Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager 3 part of the open to the
public Office 2007 Beta 2, along side your eval of ACT! 2006.

I say selfish because I will be interested in opinions between the 2,
especially from an experienced ACT! user.

I'm thinking down the road Office 2007 versus ACT! 2007 (which of
course we can't download for trial yet).

They spend about as much time devoted to their newsgroup as they do to
improving their product.
