I have tried deleting many Word and Excel files in My Documents, and every
time I do, it makes a copy - when I try to delete the copy, it makes a copy
of a copy. I cannot find any setting to change this.

If you go into Tools, Options, Save in Word - see if the "Always create
backup copy" is ticked in the Save Options (left-hand side near the top) and
untick it if it is. I don't understand why it wants to create another when
you delete it but try this first and see what happens. Maybe the same is set
in your Excel programme as well.

Otherwise it sounds like there is a hiccup in your computer!

Tried that long time ago - it is not checked.
I just thought I would try again - have had this computer for
a couple of years, and it has always done this.
Thanks anyway.

Hi D.X,

What is the folder you're using where you see your original file and is that the same folder where you see the copy? Where are you
in Word when you see this?
