I work for Waste management in the IT dept. Several users cannot open this
one particular spread sheet but can open others we're running 2000 Pro w/SP4
on all machines. I attempted to download Office SP3 and the system errored
out, I removed all of the temp and still no success. I tried to install SR2
and 3errored out again. I was able to copy the spread sheet my laptop which
runs Office 2002 XP and it opened right up with no problems. Any other
suggestions?

I printed out the article yesterday and tried all still no luck. As I said
earlier we're running W2K Pro, I also mentioned that It will open up in
Office 2002-2003. I don't believe corruption is a problem. Do you know if
anything a reason as to this behavior? However I will keep that article its
good info.

Hi Renaissance2000,
I printed out the article yesterday and tried all still no luck.

Pity.

What happens if you open the file when logged in as a different user on
the offending system(s)?

If that does work, I suspect cleaning out the temporary files folder
should help.

Different machines didn't help or clearing the temp files or cookies. How
ever I did figure it out, I sent it as a zip to my home based machine at 3 in
the afternoon yesterday and received it today at 1pm-I know slow
network-however, I resent it back to my work machine and it was there in 5
min. Since I was working different systems just for kicks I tried to open it
after approx. 22min it opened, the spreadsheet was simply to large for
Windows 2000-13MB. It appears the only advice I had for the users working on
it is to break it into pieces until the company decides to upgrade. Well
thanks for all of your help.

Good, another mystery solved then.

Thanks for letting us know.

I think it should be investigated as to how large and as to how many links
and pages Excel 2000 can handle. This particular one has over 9000 rows and
up to at least 40 columns. Links to charts and graphs etc. Believe it not
the user was perturbed at myself for suggesting minimizing the sheet.

This site gives a lot of information about Excel's calculation engine and
memory usage by Excel:
