when making pivots, is it possible to fill the rows of the colums..
ie:

right now, my pivots look like this:

Code
-------------------

Date Shift Name Hours
7/1/2004 first Jones 7.6
Doe 5.4
second Shwartz 8.0
Etc 28.3
Etc 8.0
Etc 8.0

-------------------

I would like them to look like this:

Code
-------------------

Date Shift Name Hours
7/1/2004 first Jones 7.6
7/1/2004 first Doe 5.4
7/1/2004 second Shwartz 8.0
7/1/2004 second Etc 28.3
7/1/2004 second Etc 8.0
7/1/2004 second Etc 8.0

basically, when i add columns to the pivot, i want it to auto fill dow
the details in each row. first and second are just work shifts

Can you either convert the pivottable to values (copy|paste special|values) or
make a copy that's values?

If yes, then you could use some of the techniques at Debra Dalgleish's site:
http://www.contextures.com/xlDataEntry02.html

I think you're stuck if you must keep it as a pivottable (and can't copy it).

This may look similar to Debra's response, but that's only because it is.

Sorry, Deb. Didn't see your excellent post first.

(or even the one in this thread--hehehe. oh, oh.)

That's okay, although I don't think I've ever copied one of your posts.

(Good thing there's no permanent record of what gets posted in these
newsgroups, eh?)

It's all just pixels on a screen. Just turn off the monitor or shake the
etch-a-sketch over your head and all is reset.

Hi,

An easy way is to use the following formula "=IF(A2="",I1,A2)" provided you
have a header in A1, and you want to fill the the blanks in column I.

cheers,

Per
