When opening a saved word 2000 doc all original formating is lost.

the file loses all formating, bold, centering, font size. Instead I get the
original message as left justified text with the nothations NORMAL, MY NAME,
AND VARIOUS OTHER INFORMATION NOT INCLUDED IN MY ORIGINAL DOC.
