when opening a word doc it states that the doc is in use

Word states that the doc is in use and do I want to make a copy. This
happens on all word doc. Any advise?

If the doc is in use by you, then this reflects lingering temp files; see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/DocInUse.htm

If the doc is in use by someone else, then you cannot open it for editing.
