when replying, outlook changes email address and gets rejected

When I click reply on a certain persons email, the " | " (it looks like
that) character gets inserted into the persons email address between their
name and the "@".

I looked at the email header and the incoming email doesn't have that.

The problem shows up because when I reply to this person the email gets
rejected due to an unknown email address.

For example:
Incoming = Tom Smith [[email protected]]
when I reply, it looks like this: Tom Smith <tom|@myplace.com>, so the
email bounces back rejected.
He's in my contact list, so I even double checked there and it's correct.

I tried a reply to a couple other emails I've received today and they're OK,
it's just this one email(person).

If I just send him an email from my contact list it works just fine, it's
only on replies.

Does anyone know why and how this is happening?

Thanks,
Brad

Have you looked at the message header? It might be that it got send out with
this typo in his address. Ask him to check his account settings to see if
has typed his email address correctly.
