When to Indent?

K

Karen

When you enter all your phases and tasks and sub tasks,
should you enter the dates before you indent or after you
indent?

Thank you, Karen

Hi Karen,

You may already have noticed thet expoers' advice on this question is
NEITHER
One shouldn't enter dates :)
Hope this helps,

Not to be flip, but neither one! You shouldn't be entering the dates at
all, whether before or after indenting. The whole reason for using Project
is to calculate the schedule - you don't tell it the dates you think tasks
will occur, it computes those dates and tells you when they SHOULD occur in
an optimum schedule. Trying to second guess its calculations by supplying
dates except for isolated tasks and under very specific circumstances is
going to lead to serious difficulties for you. You designate the project
start date, link the tasks according the process sequencing, assign
resources, and level if necessary, and Project will calculate for you the
dates on which tasks should be scheduled based on the information you've
given it.
