When to Index?

When should a field be indexed? If a field is used in a relationship,
either as a primary or foreign key, an index is created as part of the
process. If you need to search a table will the index created as part of a
relationship be used in the search or should a separate index be created on
the field?

Access automatically creates a hidden index on the field if it is the
foreign key in a relationship enforced with referential integrity.

Access will automatically use this index when you sort or apply criteria to
this field. There is no point at all in adding the index yourself in
addition to the one Accesss creates.
