each time I attempt to compose an email I get several paragraph symbles in
the body of the email also arrows. I don't think these symbles are
transmitted in the email, but they are distractioing when composing an email,
any suggestions?

If you're using word as email editor, turn off the formatting marks (either
using the button with the paragraph symbol on the toolbar, or using tools |
options....)

If you're using Word to compose your messages, check your Tools - Options -
Formatting Marks. If you don't want to view them while typing, uncheck those.

It sounds like you are in Outline View. On the menu bar click "View" and
then select "Web Layout" or "Print Layout", see if that helps
