where are inbox emails stored & how to get on new machine

I just got a new machine and in my old machine I have
alot of emails stored thru outlook that come up whenever
I open outlook inbox, how do I get them to new machine?
Old machine and new machine use windows ME. I found
outlook.pst file and copied over to new machine & put in
windows/applicationdata/microsoft/outlook. But new
machine didn't find them how do I get new machine to find
them.

I cannot afford to lose them.
