Where are my Menus??

Odd one here. Some of my menus have gone missing. I am
running Excel 2002 on Windows 2000. The 'Data' menu has
gone missing from my toolbar altogether. The only three
options available in my 'Insert' menu (yes, it is fully
extended!) are 'Symbol', 'Function' and 'Diagram'.

Has anyone seen anything like this before??

Pretty weird. The first thing to try is View, Toolbars, Customize and on
the Toolbars tab pick Worksheet Menu Bar and click Reset.

Weird is right.

Interestingly, the Toolbars option was also missing from
the View menu! However, I was able to get the Customize
window by right-clicking on the toolbar itself. I tried
your suggestion and it worked!

Thanks for the help... My company's helpdesk was stumped
by this and could only suggest a re-install!

Some addin has probably hijacked your menu.

Rightclick the menu, choose customise. Then select the Toolbars tab,
select the Standard bar (top one) and click reset.

Thanks - this worked alright. How would an add-in have
done this and where would I have picked it up from?

Thanks again,

Hi G,
How would an add-in have
done this and where would I have picked it up from?

It isn't necessarily an addin, but it might. It could also have been
caused by a normal workbook with macros in it.

Addins often contain code that manipulate the menu. Very handy, because
that way the addin can add its own items to the appropriate menus of
Excel. If however the addin is poorly written, you may end up with
trouble like yours.

That's a common suggestion but it very rarely fixes anything. The reason is
that re-installing does not change your settings/preferences. In this case
your menu changes, however they happened, were saved in your toolbar file
(Excel.XLB) and that file would be sitting there if you reinstalled a
thousand times.
