Where do I post a bug for Office 2007 beta?

M

Melelina

I don't see on the Office beta website any place to post a bug report. Where
do I do this? I would remove Office 2007 but I'm scared of what that will do
to my computer especially after what just discovered that I need to post a
bug report for.

Other than using the Send a Smile/Frown utility Mary posted the
newsgroups are it. There are a few beta testers that hang out in this
group and can report bugs to Microsoft. Typically, if you provide the
details we can verify it and if found to be a bug we can pass it on.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

Well, I can't use that smile site. It displays properly on Fx 1.5.06 but
there is no place to click. So, I opened IE 6, and I see text on top of text
making the page unreadable and again nowhere to click. And Microsoft wonders
why so many are moving to Fx or Opera.

It appears to be a bug in the installer. I have had an application called
The Proxomitron for many years on all my computers. I noticed a couple of
days ago when I had to access the Proxomitron's main directory for the first
time in several months (C:\Program Files\Proxomitron Naoko-4) that the
Office beta installer had deposited eight Microsoft Outlook config files in
the Proxo directory!

These range from default.config and default-backup.config through Level 6
config. They are all 17.4kb in size and the created date is Thursday, May
01, 2003, 8:25:32 PM (from the properties box). This computer is seven
months old and did not have any Microsoft Office application on it (with the
exception of Word 2002 from MS Works Suite 2006) until I installed Microsoft
Office 2007 beta so these files are from the beta application install.

I'm asking about this. Also, could you provide the exact file names?

Thanks!

Hi Melelina,

You may want to try the page with the Proxomitron rules switched off as one of its primary functions is to use its rules to disable
or modify style sheet. You can also download the feedback tool directly from
http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A2E1F4E2-BC0F-4403-B09F-7A677D55F274

Keep in mind that the use of ActiveX controls on Microsoft sites is often required.

Hi Melelina,

Default.cfg, default-backup.cfg and the Level 1 through Level 6 .cfg files make up the eight part set of normal Proxo configuration
files that came with that program. The 2003 date and times you listed are the ones from the May 2003 Naoko 4.5 update (the next to
last update)
and would normally have .cfg, not .config names.

What could have happened as part of the Office 2007 beta installation, rather than Office having added files, is that MS Outlook,
which also uses .CFG files has likely taken 'ownership' of the .cfg file extension, so that you're seeing the MS Office logo next
to those files if you're viewing in Windows Explorer as Windows XP has displayed the icon that is tied to a specific file type
association.

Check in Windows Explorer in Tools=>Folder Options=>File Types to see if that's the case.

You hit the nail on the head. Thank you! I wondered actually if those were
Proxo files because there are about six levels of configs from the original
Proxo application and the last update was around May 2003. I haven't used
Scott's configs since May 2004 when I got JD's configs and later Sidki's. He
has a new set just out and that is why I was in the Proxo main directory.

It was my mistake in being sloppy when I said the files were .config. They
are .cfg. They are associated in Explorer with Microsoft Office Outlook
Configuration Files.

I see that they still work properly as Proxo files. I tried a couple of the
configs and the Proxo GUI changed to Scott's rainbow GUI and to the proper
configs from Scott. Should I just leave them like they are or can I can
associate them with Proxo without messing up Outlook?

As an aside, I checked both my XP Pro SP1 virtual machine and my 98SE
machine that have Proxo also. The 98SE machine in Explorer view in the
properties box shows no association at all for those files. But my XP Pro
SP1 virtual machine shows those files in Properties to be associated with
Belarc Advisor and Belmonitor Client Discovery. I have Advisor on all three
machines but I have never heard of Belmonitor Client Discovery (maybe it has
to do with Belarc). But on both machines those files do not have other icons
or names like they do on the XP Pro SP2 machine where they have the Outlook
icon and name.
