Where does MS Outlook store received attachments prior to the user

Greetings.
I am using MS Outlook 2003 and I want to know where within the program are
incoming attachments stored? Obviously the Inbox contains the incoming
messages containing attachments, but there must be a database that Outlook
uses to store the attachments that is accessed when reading incoming messages
containing an attachment.
Thank you.

Attachments are stored within the message itself. There is no separate
"database", despite you thinking it's "obvious" one should exist.

ok. so is there no other location within the program that an attachment could
be located?

That's what I said, yes. As long as you haven't opened the attachment, the
only place it is kept is within the mail message in the message store (PST
or server mailbox, depending on the account). If you open the attachment
within the message, though, naturally your PC writes it to a temporary cache
on your hard drive and then starts the app that is associated with its file
type, feeding it that temporary location.
