Where does Outlook Express locate its '.pst' file

John de-Pulford

Can anyone enlighten me as to where Outlook Express locates it '.pst'
file.
In:
Win 98
Win2K
Win XP Pro

Or does it use the same locations as Outlook.

Thank you for your help.

Outlook Express doesn't use PST files. It uses mbx and dbx files.

Thank you Patricia. I understand that.
Problem is though, I need to upgrade a client's machine from Win 98 to
W2K and install Outlook 3003. Client currently has all his e-mail in
OE and wishes to retain it. I need to copy whatever passes as his
'Personal Mail Folder' into the new environment.
With Outlook it's easy, just move the client's .pst folder over, but
what does one do with OE?
Thank you for your response.

After you install Outlook 2003 on the computer, export the mail from Outlook
Express into Outlook 2003.

Thanks for coming back Sgt Rich. Good idea, I'll create a mail account
in the old (and unused) version of Outlook running on this machine
I'll then export the OE mail file into the new account thereby
building a pst structure, I'll then copy that to external storage
rebuild the the machine then install Outlook 2003 and paste the 'old'
pst file into the Documents and settings\user\local
settings\applic...etc...etc....Outlook folder.
That'll do it.
Can anyone think of anything better, or less daft.
Regards

Just don't overwrite any PST of the same name or you will corrupt the mail
profile. Also, the PST you move doesn't have to be in that folder. Any
accessible folder is acceptable.
