I can't find the check box to...

Automatically add emails I reply to to my contact in Outlook 2003.

I've looked under Tools | Options | Email | Advanced

Seems like it was there in Outlook 2000...

I want to make sure it is turned off...

thanks for any help.

This facility of Outlook has been removed from Outlook 2003.
You must manually add an email address to your Contacts now.
To do this,
1) Open Outlook
2) Open the email item containing the email address you want to add to
your contacts (fully open it, not just display it in the Preview
window)
3) Put the mouse pointer on the "From" field containing the email
address you want to add and select it by clicking on it once.
4) Right-click the address
5) Click on "Add to Outlook Contacts..."
6) Click on "Save and Close"

No current versions of Outlook have the ability to add recipients
automatically to your Contacts Folder. Only the long abandoned IMO mode
of Outlook 98/2000 did that. To automatically add the email address of
people you respond to to your Contacts Folder requires code:

In addition to the other replies, since you're saying you want to make sure
it's turned off, it is - it doesn't exist. :)

It was in Outlook 2000 in Internet Mail Only mode. Outlook 2003 doesn't
have the option. It won't automatically add addresses to which you reply
unless you program it to do so with methods outlined at
http://www.outlookcode.com/d/code/autoaddrecip.htm
