Where is the beef for Project Portfolio 2007

Does anybody know why there is so little documentation for Project Portfolio
2007? I do not see any documentation in TechNet.

Or why there is not a conference for specific for Project Portfolio 2007? Or
how do we request one set up?

Is Microsoft really interested in getting this layer implemented, or do they
just want the big players implementing this.

Thanks Paul,

I have found those documents (deployment guide, optimizer user manual,
dashboard manual, programmer reference) and they are helpful, but I am still
puzzled as to why we don't find that and more in the TechNet library.

My uninformed guess: Microsoft is probably spending most of their
effort on the next release of this product. I expect the UI to get a
major overhaul, and docs written for this release would need to be
rewritten. I think you are simply seeing a case of MS doing a small
scale release to keep the product out there, but saving resources and
effort for the next major release.

I have no inside knowledge on this topic, but having used and
installed Portfolio server a couple of times, it just makes sense to
concentrate on the next, hopefully more friendly, version.

Also, we were informed at the Conference that Portfolio Server will be
integrated into the Project Server application in P14... This could
also be a factor.

I have been searching for better documentation on PPS also. I have been
struggling with the connection to SQL Reporting Services. The reports do not
seem to show up.

If anyone comes across some third-party technical documentation please let
us know.

Thanks

Brian

Brian, I doubt you're going to find much. As others have pointed out,
MSFT is doing a MAJOR rewrite of PPS for the next release. What we're
seeing right now is pretty much the old UMT product, which MSFT
purchased in early 2006, with some updated branding and compatibility
with SQL 2005.

EPMU offers a five day, online training course (http://www.msepmu.com/
deploying.htm), and UMT offers the same course in four days of in-
person training (for approx 4X the cost - http://www.umt.com/site/Training-Offering_802.html),
and it offers a pretty good, and pretty deep, spin thru the entire
product. I just went thru the online version, and learned a TON. I
recommend it if you're implementing PPS 2007.

Astro - Thanks for the recommendation on the EPMU course. I will plan on
taking it as soon as I can. In the meantime, I will be soliciting questions
and advice from the people in this group.

Once again, thanks a million to everyone here!
