I need to type in Japanese in my Office 2003, but I cannot find the IME for
it. All I can find is the IME for Office XP. A help file told me it's at
the Microsoft website somewhere, but I cannot find it. Can anyone help me?

I think you're quoting from
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HP030854631033.aspx , which
is more or less how it works in Office XP. In Office 2003 with Windows
XP, use the IMEs in Windows XP as described in
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/handson/user/IME_Paper.mspx .

"Install an Input Method Editor (IME)
The feature or some of the options described in this Help topic are only
available if support for Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese,
or Korean is enabled through Microsoft Office Language Settings.

Go to the Microsoft Office Online Web site, navigate to the IME download
page you want, and then follow the instructions there.
Once you have installed the IME, you can access it from the Language bar
that appears on the screen. For detailed information about using the IME, see
the Help that is included with it.

IMEs are also included with the Microsoft Office 2003 Proofing Tools. For
more information about Proofing Tools, visit the Microsoft Office Online Web
site.

Note If you used what was referred to as a Global IME with a previous
version of Office, it will not work with Office 2003. You need to go to the
Web site listed above to download an updated version."

Hi Capello,

There isn't a MS global IME for Office 2003.

It uses the Input Method Editor tools of Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/handson/user/IME_Paper.mspx
with an Office 2003 update for Chinese
http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=f2a55210-4cc1-4040-b710-625a45f2594d

although there has been a buglet or two in the
Alternative input features
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;870774&FR=1

There are some specific IMEs in the Office 2003 Proofing Tools
http://www.translation.net/images/img_tools.gif
but you may want to check with the folks in the
Word International features group, link below, for
information on using IMEs with Office 2003.
