Where is the tab to click "create a powerpoint presentation"?

My new laptop does not have an icon for powerpoint but I wee it in the list
of programs. when I click it, it does not give me a choice tocreate a
presentation.

Are you saying that when you click Powerpoint in the start menu of Windows
it does not start? What happens is there a message, does the computer freeze
or something else.
What version of Powerpoint are you using, in versions 2002/2003 when you
start the program you are immediately presented with a new slide with a
title and subtitle. In earlier versions you were presented with a dialogue
that gave you a choice to create a presentation in different ways, and then
you could choose a slide layout.
Could you give us more clues as to what you are tryning to achieve so we can
help you better.
