where is visual basic help?

Hi all

I want to use the Visual Basic Editor in Excel v.X. When going to the
Help manu I get the following:

Visual Basic Help
To install Visual Basic Help, run the installer program that you used
when you originally installed Microsoft Excel, and choose the Custom
Install option. In the Microsoft Excel category, select the Help for Visual
Basic check box.
To get Help about Visual Basic in Microsoft Excel, point to Macro on the
Tools menu, and then click Visual Basic Editor. Click Office Assistant .
Or you can click the Assistant to display the balloon; type the method,
property, function, statement, or object you want information about;
click Search, and then click the topic you want.

And when I select help > visual basic help topics, I get the dialog box
"the MS Office VBA Editor Help file that contains this topic cannot be
found"

So I put in the original disk and run Custom Install. There is a check
box for Excel, but no Help for Visual Basic check box can be found.
Reinstalling Excel results in a dialog box saying that all Excel files are
already installed. Bottom line is I can't find the help file Excel is looking
for. I've installed all the Office updates I can find, right through 10.1.5.
I've searached the Mactopia site for clues but can find none.

Where is this mysterious help file?

The Help menu leads you to a wrong direction it seems ;-)

In fact, you'll have to run the "Value-Pack Installer" that is in the
"Value-Pack" Folder on the CD. There you'll find the "Programmability" line,
containing the long-expected "VBA Help" item :)

Many thanks. I now have the Help I need.

Shame on me for believing Excel Help ;-)

Hi,

It wouldn't hurt to send a suggestion to Microsoft and ask them to fix the
help topic. There's a feedback item on Excel's Help menu for that purpose.
No one from Microsoft will necessarily see the postings here in the
newsgroup.
