Where to install 2003 admin tools

M

Marcus Pierce

All,

Is it preferable to install the admin tools on the machine running Project
Server 2003 or the machine from which I admin the server (which I do using
Remote Desktop Connection)? I'm wondering if it makes sense to run some of
the tools--eg, Health Monitor, Smoke Test--from the same machine that I'm
testing. Or are some of the tools better installed on the server and some
better from my remote machine? I have multiple servers to test, so it seems
like it would be easier from my remote machine.

Thanks in advance,

Marcus --

Some of the tools specifically require installation on the server on which
Project Server is installed, such as the EditSite tool, for instance. In
addition, Microsoft states that you must be an administrator on the computer
running Project Server and the computers running the Project Server Views
Notification Service and Windows SharePoint Services, if applicable. Hope
this helps.

Marcus:

I haven't found much problem with doing most of this work on a remote
console save for the peculiarities one sometimes runs into when trying to
install software from a mapped drive. Usually that's handily overcome by
copying the files to the server.
