Goes in the head section of your page below the title tag, as seen in HTML / Code View.

Hi,
Probably nowhere :) Meta keywords have been so used and abused over the
years that all the important search engines ignore them. However adding this
won't do any harm - add it between the <head> </head> tags on your page.

The search engines don't use them to index a site, but they do use them to compare with the
written/viewable text content on the page.

Interesting. I've heard that before. What would be the purpose of the search
engine doing this? Would it help a site achieve a better ranking? Do you
have a link I could read? Preferably on one of the search engine sites - a
lot of search engine info on 3rd party sites should be taken with a large
pinch of salt :)

My understanding is to prevent abuse of keywords. If the keyword meta contains words that aren't
in the text of the page it will lower the page rank, if it ranks it at all.

Go here: http://www.nirsoft.net and download and run a little free utility named Grank ( Google
Rank ) and see how some of your pages fair.!!

Hi Steve,
That makes sense - so the best thing to do would be to just leave out the
meta keywords altogether, did some searching myself and couldn't find any
reference to this anywhere. I know how well all my pages rank in Google -
business depends on it :) Be very careful with those kind of rank checking
tools though - Google takes a very dim view of them and repeated use could
see your domain banned from Google for good. They see it as using resources
that should be used for proper searches.
