Which Jet engine do I have?

I have just installed Access 2003. How does one tell
which version of the jet engine they have or can one
determine this? I would like to have Jet 4.0 with SP8,
but don't want to go through the download routine if it
is already installed.

Check the version of msjet40.dll file in Windows\System32 folder.

If SP8, version will be 4.0.8015.0.

Access 2000 and newer use Jet 4.0.

Searching on msjet40.dll in the Windows directory...

Jet 4.0 SP 6 - 4.0.6218.0
Jet 4.0 SP 8 - 4.0.8015.0
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-014 - 4.0.8618.0

For a somewhat complete list of msjet40.dll versions see
How To: Obtain the Latest Service Pack for the Microsoft Jet 4.0

If Windows XP ignore the msjet40.dll files found in the following
directories:
C:\WINDOWS\LastGood\System32
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386

If Windows 2000 ignore the msjet40.dll files found in the following
directories:
C:\WINNT\ServicePackFiles\i386
