Which product ? Professional or Server?

My company is planning to purchase MS Project. We do not
know what product is best suited for us. We have four IT
managers that must share their developers for when
staffing projects. There are 50+ developers and many have
specific skills. Each project leader will create and
maintain their own project plan. The IT manangers need
thier project leaders to 'roll up' their projects under
their manager. Then Director of IT wants all IT managers
to insert their projects into a 'master' list so that
reports for the whole department will show all current
projects, shared resources and resource allocations.
Please make recommendations. We do have a company
intranet but we do not have time to develop web pages like
is described by the MS Project Web Access. Can Project
Server 2002 be used with Project 2002 Professional and
share resources, roll-up and report?

For what you are proposing, you could use just
Professional. If you need to track resource work to task
and see portfolio views and perform what-if analysis on
projects and tasks, then you would definitely need
Projewct Server, but you did not state that this was a
requirement. Server also allows team collaboration that
is not available with just Project as well. If usd with
Team Services you can link Documents and Issues to tasks
within projects. Hope this helps some.
