White border around background on brochure.

In Publisher I am trying to print a tri-fold brochure on 8x10 paper. When I
print, I am getting an uneven white border around the edges of my brochure.
Obviously this was not a problem when printing on a white background but when
I chose a textured background, it prints the white border around the edges.
The border is only a sliver on the left side but is about 1/2" on the right
side. I have tried allowing for bleeds but I still have the same problem. I
am using an HP Officejet 7410xi.

Can your printer actually print to the edges of the paper. Check your
documentation for the HP.

According to your printer manual you can print borderless on that size. Do
you have both Publisher and your printer set for photo paper?

For some reason unknown to me Publisher doesn't recognize borderless printing
with some HP printers. Some folks with Canon's don't have this issue.
I have a borderless HP printer, I simply save my publication as a picture and
use HP's software to print it borderless.

Hm. I have an HP but I've never tried to print borderless for anything.
Besides, mine will only do full-bleed up to 4" x 6".

Thank you for all of your help. I tried printing borderless printing...I set
my printer to borderless printing and chose photo paper. This actually made
it worse because it magnified everything that was on the page and pushed my
text further toward the edges so some of it is cut off now...Still have the
white border. I think that I have publisher set to photo as well but I am
not sure.

Most printers have what is called a "non-printable area" which will not print
a color to the edges of the paper which is called a "bleed." The color would
be there for commercial printing purposes if you save the document in that
manner. Actually the full "bleed" must extend beyond the edges of your page
by 0.25" and the paper size must be larger than the page size (2 separate
things). To see if you printer will print to the edges - go to Wordpad -
File - Page Setup - and try to change the values of the margins to -0- You
will not be able to create a -0- if the printer cannot print to the edges.
That will show you the printer's range of printing. Most home printers do not
print to the edges of the paper for documents. Hope this helps explain your
problem.

I went to Wordpad and entered in the 0's. Looks like my printer won't print
to the edges. Thank you for the feedback. At least I can give up trying now.

When I try this to get around my non-ability to print borderless with my
"borderless capable printer HP 3301", I lose a lot of quality; even when I
save the file as a TIF. How can I save the publisher file to an image and
not lose quality so that I can get borderless printing?

Thanks - Rhonda

I figured it out thanks to Mary. I was not setting the resoultion high
enough (in fact I didn't even see that resolution setting drop down when I
was saving the file the first time). This solves my problem with borderless
printing now.

I published my publisher file as a pdf, clicked change->then advanced, upped
the downsamples to the maximum. Then I went into Print Options and made sure
the printer's marks were unchecked. I opened the pdf file to print it and
ensured that it was set to fit to printable area. Also, made sure I was
printing as a borderless photo. And voila! No more white border. Hope this
can help someone out there. The above suggestions helped me figure this out.
