why are all my office applications locking up?

hi, i've had my office 2k3 for a year now, i bought a separate CD. recently,
my computer crashed and i had to reboot completely. i reinstalled office
fine, yet when i open any office application, it starts normally and a second
after opening it, every single button or command option goes opaque and
unusable, in EVERY application! i've run all the updates and it's completely
virus free, so someone PLEASE help me!

Open one of the products (Word for example). Help - Activate product.
