Word doesn't support any type of animation except when a document is saved
as a Web page and viewed in a browser.

Hi Jerrikay,
Only .AVI types show the animation while inside of
the Word document screen. As Suzanne mentioned
the functionallity for displaying the animated (GIF)
graphics from Word is in the web browser, which can
work from within Word's File=>Web Page Preview.
