Hi Chop,
When Word crashes it doesn't clean up after itself as far as old temporary files are concerned. Sometimes the old temporary files
can contribute to a later crash, but you could have a damaged Office installation or a 3rd party add-in that is conflicting, so
you'd want to troubleshoot to find the underlying cause if Word is shutting down on its own periodically.
With Word closed you can clear out many of the old temp files by using Start=>Search and recycling files found with the search
string of
~$*.*;*.tmp

I am finding that Word keeps having to close while i am using it, and all the
temporary files it has created in the last few months have been saved. I am
sure they normally disappear after closing a document. Are the two things
linked?>>
